From March 1st, Maersk Training will offer shoulder width measurements for personnel traveling on the Norwegian continental shelf. The background is that on July 1st, 2019, the Civil Aviation Authority implemented the EU's regulation concerning requirements for evacuation possibilities in helicopters. The requirement is to ensure that all passengers have access to a large enough emergency exit so that evacuation can be carried out in a safe and efficient manner.

During a transition period, shoulder measurements have been conducted at the heliport prior to departure. Going forward, shoulder measurements will be carried out at safety centers approved by Offshore Norway.

By April 2024, shoulder measurements will become an "additional course" taken in connection with the completion of the Basic Safety Training (GSK). From then on, the Basic Safety certificate will indicate whether the shoulder width is "Normal" or "XBR." "XBR" indicates that the person should sit in predefined seats in the helicopter.

Each operator is responsible for ensuring that shoulder measurements are added to DaWinci. Shoulder measurements are valid for 4 years and are renewed along with the refresher course on GSK.

Shoulder measurements are conducted standing in front of a wall-mounted poster, or by using a special measuring device.
